Euclideon & Unlimited Detail - Bruce Dell Interview
AKA, Euclideon’s terrible narrator from last week’s video proves his UNLIMITED DETAIL game is possible on today’s technology and has the foundations of animation in the engine. It makes it seem like they got too giddy with what they’ve produced already and made an announcement about it the other day. Production continues, etc.
Skip ahead to 22 minutes in if you are too busy to wait through.
Euclideon - 1
Notch Defense Force - 0I can’t express how happy I am to see this video. Prost, thank you for posting it to Tumbles. ;v;
The first twenty minutes are more for history’s sake and so you get a full-ish backstory of what these guys have been doing. If you just want to see the technical details, you can skip to 22:00.
I watched it through, and the video is seriously 100% legit. You get specs for the computer (spoiler: it’s an ASUS G73SW, 8GB RAM, GeForce GTX 460M graphics card), you see the interviewer control it, everyone makes dorky jokes. Bruce is seriously a mega-dork, also a nice guy??
An important note at 32:19 onwards too: Because of the way the system works, it is entirely feasible that 3D game artists could move back to sculpture and traditional crafting in order to produce game models, art assets, what have you. To think that 3D game art assets could be totally produced with physical clay and paint — something that game companies were doing when all we had were sprites and pixels (Doom I and II are perfect examples of this) — is absolutely mindblowing to me.
‘Course, now Euclideon is going to be dead quiet about this until it’s ready, but I’m totally fine with that. I just hope Unlimited Detail sees some serious use in a few years time.
THANK YOU FOR THIS. I LOVE THIS.
Amazing follow-up, looks even more encouraging now. Thanks for posting & details, too!
